The action takes place in Lecco and Milan in the 17th century. Young Renzo and Lucia are waiting for their wedding, when a powerful gentleman intervenes in their plans, wanting to prevent the wedding. Threatening death, he forces the priest to deny the lovers the sacred sacrament and forces them to escape. They find themselves victims of current circumstances and decide to temporarily separate.
